If your tattoo has been bandaged you may remove the bandage within 1-2 hours. *You may need to soak the bandage to loosen any dried spots of blood or plasma. Wash your hands and then wash the tattoo gently and thoroughly with fingers and soapy water 2-3 times to remove any dried blood, plasma or ink. Use cool water that is comfortable to wash with. Do not scald your tattoo.
-
Pat dry your tattoo with clean paper towels and allow it to air dry for 5-15 minutes. Do not use a shower towel or hand towel.
-
Once your tattoo is dry apply a small amount of the aftercare ointment or lotion suggested by your artist. Apply 2 times daily. Less is more. Do not over moisturize.
-
Your tattoo will begin to peel like a sunburn within 2-6 days on average. Do not pick or scratch at your tattoo during this stage, this can cause scarring and loss of pigment.
-
Do not get into any water source other than a shower for a minimum of 10 days after your tattoo is applied. It must be fully peeled and sealed before normal water activities can resume.
-
The initial heal is 10-14 days after application. Full heal is 6-8 weeks. Once the tattoo is fully healed a touch up session may be necessary to fine tune the tattoo. This will be discussed with your artist.
-
You may ice your tattoo to reduce inflammation as needed for the first 72 hours after application. Place a clean paper towel over the tattoo to create a barrier and make sure the ice pack has been thoroughly cleaned. Ice it for 20 minutes on and off for 1-2 hours as often as needed. Do not place ice pack directly on tattoo.
