HOW SMALL CAN I GET THE TATTOO?
It depends on the design. Part of the natural aging process of tattoos is that they expand under the skin, so when we tattoo you here, it’s important we account for that aging in the sizing of the tattoo to ensure it still looks great in 10 years. In some cases, we can modify designs, removing detail so they can be sized down.
DO YOU DO SINGLE NEEDLE TATTOOS?
We are well versed with fine line tattoos. However, there are a few variables to consider, one being that healing this kind of tattoo is a very delicate process and they often require a touchup. Also skin type and longevity have to be taken into account. We offer free touchups for life, your’s or our’s, whichever ends first. *PLEASE READ OUR TOUCHUP POLICY.
CAN I SEE THE DESIGN BEFOREHAND?
Absolutely! We will send you a photo of your design or call you back in for a second meeting once the design is finished to make sure it fits properly and make any last minute adjustments prior to your appointment. This ensures efficiency when you show up to your appointment.
CAN YOU FIX MY OLD TATTOO?
It depends- Please send Tommy an email to tommymichael@thesleepycowboy.com with a picture of the current tattoo. He is very experienced in coverup work. Usually covering the old tattoo is the preferred option by both artist and client after consultation. In very rare circumstances laser treatments are suggested in order to lighten the tattoo prior to covering it with a new design.
WHAT IF I BOOKED AN APPOINTMENT BUT NOW I WANT TO CHANGE MY DESIGN?
Not all artists work digitally. When the artist works authentically and all designs are hand drawn on paper or directly onto the body they may take significant time to make changes. Please let your artist know if you are planning to change your idea as soon as you have decided. This can affect the length and process and number of sessions required. We try to run our schedules as smoothly as possible so keep us updated. If the design is changed significantly last minute you will be charged extra for additional drawing time and or denial of service for the time being (up to artist discretion).
DO YOU DO FINGER TATTOOS?
It really depends on what you're looking for and is up to artist discretion. We do always like to give an extensive warning that any finger tattoos (especially those that are finer lined/very delicate) have a very high probability of fading/falling out quickly after getting them done. If longevity is what you're looking for we suggest changing the placement to your wrist/a different location on the body. We strive to give tattoos that will last you a lifetime. We do not offer complimentary touch-ups on fingers.

SHOULD I SHOW UP EARLY TO MY APPOINTMENT?
On your first appointment you will be required to show up 30 minutes early. This allows time for paperwork, last minute questions, process explanation and stenciling. You should show up 5-10 minutes early on following appointments.
WHAT IF I SHOW UP LATE?
If you show up late it cuts into the time you pay for. You will be charged for the entirety of your session. What you choose to do with that time is up to you. Out of courtesy for following appointment we will not run late on yours. Their time is as valuable as your’s. Please allow adequate time for travel.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY SESSION?
Hydrate and eat. Take care of your body and your tattoo will be a much more pleasant experience. Refrain from drinking alcohol before your appointment, as this can causes dehydration and can not only make it more painful but causes excess bleeding. For hand and feet tattoos, use moisturizer daily the week leading up to your appointment. Shower before your appointment please! Have a photo ID on you when you arrive.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY SESSION?
Something comfortable. Loose fitting clothing in the area you're getting tattooed. Certain body placements require specific clothing in order for the area to be revealed for the tattoo. You should always feel safe, by talking to your artist in advance about any privacy concerns. We can offer clothing suggestions that can assure you feel 100% comfortable. If you feel more comfortable with a friend or spouse present they are always welcome. We allow one guest to accompany you to your appointment.
SHOULD I SHAVE THE AREA BEFORE MY SESSION?
If you choose to do so please use clippers only. Leave the razors to us to ensure you do not damage the area. Significant damage may result in having to reschedule and loss of deposit.
DOES THE SKIN NEED TO BE COMPLETELY CLEAR? Zits, cuts, scars, ect?
In a perfect world, yes the skin would be perfectly clear for the tattoo but that’s not often the case. We will work with whatever you’re working with unless safety is an issue. Scars sometimes have trouble accepting ink so you may require a second pass, depending on the type of scar. The age of a scar is usually the main factor that may inhibit us from tattooing over it. Scars should be discussed during the consultation. We cannot tattoo over fresh cuts or scabs. We cannot tattoo over a psoriasis breakout/eczema. If you have a skin condition and are concerned about getting tattooed, we always recommend double checking with your healthcare provider/doctor prior to booking.
WILL IT HURT?
Yes, all tattoos hurt. We do keep your comfort in mind and we do our very best to be as gentle as tattooing allows. Eating well, staying hydrated, and relaxed are always the best ways to ease the pain. We promise you’ll be fine.
CAN I USE NUMBING CREAM?
No, due to the risks of allergic reactions, chemical burns and skin irritation we do not allow any numbing agents to be used. If you show up with numbing cream on we will refuse to tattoo you and your deposit will be forfeited. A new deposit will be required to reschedule.
IS GETTING A TATTOO SAFE?
Yes, if done properly by a professional. Keep in mind there are always risks with any tattoo but if you follow our instructions for the healing process that risk is minimal. The majority of infections are caused by factors after you leave the studio.
ARE YOUR INKS VEGAN FRIENDLY?
Yes! All products used in our studio are cruelty free and vegan friendly.
CAN WE TAKE BREAKS?
Yes, whenever necessary. We often suggest taking breaks and occasionally need them ourselves.
LARGE WORK
Please contact the artist you want to work with. Consultations are required for large work and all details will be discussed at that time.
SMALL WORK
The price will be determined either during the consultation or after the design is finalized. *Please be transparent with your artist if you are working with a budget during your consultation.
*We do not have a shop minimum. Shop minimums encourage price shopping. We offer exceptional tattoos for fair prices. Cheap tattoos aren’t good and good tattoos aren’t cheap.
SESSIONS
All sessions are limited to 4 hours. This results in the best heals because it doesn’t overwhelm the body’s immune system. *The only reason sessions are cut short is due to your body telling us it’s had enough. This is the only reason session pricing will be adjusted. It may take a session or two for us to dial in your threshold for pain.
*Understand that sitting in one position for a few hours can actually be one of the more difficult parts of getting tattooed. Stretching prior to your appointment is always suggested. Be realistic with what you want.
Example- If you want a full leg sleeve but are unable to lay on your stomach, back or side for long periods of time it will pose a major issue.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY TATTOO?
We will go over all after care instructions verbally with you at the completion of the tattoo or session. We will also give you a written copy of the instructions. We suggest familiarizing yourself with the aftercare process here prior to your appointment. Take note of any questions you may have and ask at the time of your consultation or tattoo appointment.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE HEALING PROCESS?
Some tenderness, inflammation, and itching is always to be expected but are manageable. Tattoos start to peel like a sunburn usually about 2-5 days following the application- this is completely normal and should be left to flake off naturally on its own. Some scabbing can occur as well but should be minimal- do not pick or scratch at it if this happens or you will lose pigment. Even if it scabs it will usually heal well as long as it's left alone.
WILL MY TATTOO FADE?
Yes, as time passes all tattoos lighten. This is normal but the richness can be restored with a simple touch-up. This is complementary for all black and grey, small color work, and for a nominal charge for large color work.
WHAT IF MY TATTOO GETS INFECTED?
First and foremost, contact your health care provider immediately if you believe you have an infection. Infections do happen but are rare. The majority of infections happen due to circumstances outside of the tattoo studio. Dirty hands, pets, unclean work environments and poor personal hygiene are some of the main reasons why your tattoo may get infected.
WHEN TO ASK QUESTIONS?
Whenever you have one! Never be afraid or feel embarrassed to ask questions. The only bad question is one that wasn’t asked.
